Lorenz's Rolfing Practice

Lorenz Schweitzer has been a manual therapist sense 1994.  During that time he has been studying three basic forms of contact: (1) light touch/non directional; (2) firm touch/directional; (3) energetic/both directional and non directional (see chart bellow*).

In 1998, he began the study of Rolfing. He found that the Rolf Model allowed for continual growth and expansion in all three forms of contact. Although Rolfing is a field of manual therapy that is primarily known for its firm touch style of myofascial therapy many Rolf Practioners have training in all three forms.

In 2001 he completed his required studies with the Rolf Institute.  From this point on , Lorenz began the arduous journey of holding and improving his firm touch methods of classical Rolfing by mentoring with Jim Price.**  At the same time he began to restudy and create branches within the Rolf methodology for light touch techniques such as CranioSacral Therapy and Visceral Manipulation.  Although he felt that this process was developing well, his use and development of light touch techniques was unsupported by an outside mentor.

In 2005 he contacted Frank Lowen, a former teacher of Visceral Manipulation and CranioSacral Therapy for the Upledger Institute.  To Lorenz's surprise Frank had expanded his own work by creating a new approach called Biovalent Systems (BVS). Lorenz has found that both Rolfing and BVS use manual therapy to assist the body in its natural corrective process to achieve balance and restore health. Although, Rolfing additionally educates and facilities the development of postural balance beyond any previous state felt, BVS educational process focuses on the internal balance between body systems. Bringing the two methods together results in an aligned postural balance with deep resource to meet lifes chalenges.

Biovalent® Systems (BVS)

By using light touch BVS creates a dialog between systems in the body that are responding poorly to each other so that the body's natural corrective process may be stimulated to achieve balance and restore health. Several of the systems that BVS dialogs with in its light touch method are the craniosacral, visceral, myofascial, nervous, circulatory and hormonal systems. To find out more about BVS look to: http://www.biovalentsystems.com.

Myofascial Therapy

Myofascial Therapy uses both firm and light touch to releases bonds between layers, fields and sacks of restricted fascia and poorly aligned structures. Additionally, it traces the body's memory of the injury by releasing each component as the client's responses guide the therapist from one restriction to the next.

CranioSacral Therapy (CST)

CST can use both firm and light touch to balance the dynamic relationships of the cranium, pelvis and spine. This has been known to reduce chronic pain and dysfunction.

Visceral Manipulation

Through light touch Visceral Manipulation looks to enhance the functions of the organs body.  By doing so shared tensions between the body and various organs are released and structural and functional changes can occur in both the organ and the body.
